EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Preschool and Kindergarten Education

St. Colette School takes great pride in its emphasis on early childhood education. Recognizing that children begin learning from birth, our early childhood program provides an academic foundation for lifelong learning.  The early childhood curriculum is coordinated with the elementary curriculum of St. Colette School to provide the essential learning skills for success in elementary school.  The Early Childhood Program has four key features:

  • Our early academics program nurtures the inquisitive nature of young children, helping them build basic academic skills.

  • Faith based education provides a strong foundation in Christian values.

  • Creativity and artistry, critical elements in early childhood education, are introduced through art and music.

  • Social interactions and teamwork skills are developed through work and play.

In the last few years there has been a burst of research in cognition and learning, child development, and the social and cultural context of learning. One clear outcome of this research is the exceptional enthusiasm and competence for learning shown by young children. In August 2016 St. Colette School will be offering 4 early childhood programs for these eager four to five year old learners.
The half-day Pre-school program will be held from 7:30am until 11:00am Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The half-day Pre-kindergarten program will be held from 11:30am until 2:15pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and 11:30am until 1:30pm Fridays.  Children 3 and four years of age will be eligible for these programs which are classic preschool programs, with emphasis on development of motor and social skills. Students must be 3 years old by September 1st of the school year to be eligible for these classes.

The full-day Pre-school class will be held from 7:35am until 2:15pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and 7:35 until 1:30pm Fridays.

The full-day Pre-kindergarten class will be held from 7:35am until 2:15pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and 7:35am until 1:30pm Fridays. These classes will be composed of 3 and 4 year olds, and young 5 year olds, who are not yet ready for the kindergarten curriculum. The children in these classes will be expected to have a longer attention span than those in the preschool class. The lessons will be more academic in nature, promoting the development of letter, sound and beginning mathematic skills. Students must be 3 years old by September 1st of the school year to be eligible for these classes.

The goal for all students, whether in the Pre-school or Pre-Kindergarten classroom, will be preparation for kindergarten by September 1st of their 5th year. Those who are ready for the academics of kindergarten and are 5 years old by September 1st may attend kindergarten.

The Full-day Kindergarten will meet from 7:30am until 2:15pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and 7:35am until 1:30pm Fridays with enriched mathematics, reading, and religion curriculum along with science and social studies.

St. Colette School’s four early childhood programs will allow parents and teachers to choose the educational model which will best promote each child’s individual learning and development goals.

Bus service, along with our and After School Care Programs, will also be available to meet the scheduling needs of our families.
